Be Back Soon

I haven't been posting much lately. It feels kinda weird. I'm waiting for a new lens so I haven't used my camera AT ALL in a week. My husband dropped my camera when he was taking it out of the car one day and my favorite 50 mm busted. I was devastated. Thank goodness it wasn't that expensive. But, I went to a local camera shop and ordered a new one and it cost me almost $150. Apparently, there's a new version of the 50 mm 1.8. It better be worth the extra dough!

So hopefully I'll have some pictures soon! Hope you had a great weekend.

So Sorry

Dear Blog,

I'm so sorry I've been neglecting you, but it's summer, you know. Our days of late have been spent at the beach, the boardwalk, the park, and the pool. I've also spent some time in the hospital, can you believe it? Long story ...

I hope to get back on track next week. I've got two maternity sessions coming up, one in July and one in August. I may also be photographing a 50th anniversary party. Can't wait!!

Here are some pics of my girls for now.

My New Favorite Picture

I'm very rarely in pictures with my children because I'm always behind the camera. On Father's Day though, my niece captured this shot of me and my little munchkin and I just love it!!

This is my best shot for Monday

Thursday Theme: Wildlife

Sorry for the disappearing act, but I was on a little vacation with my family. We've been at the beach having a fabulous time. I wanted to check in for the Thursday Theme because we got two visitors at the shore. The first was from a ladybug that landed on my leg. Not exactly a wild animal, but it's supposed to bring good luck. I snapped a pic of it actually on my leg but it came out blurry. This is my daughter trying to get the ladybug to crawl on her hand.

The second is a picture of a crab that my husband found.

Hope you're having a wonderful week. I can't wait to show you all the pictures I got. Back to the pool!!!

Thursday Theme: Time

I've been thinking about time a lot lately. My baby is turning 5 years old in a few short days. Jaime is growing up so fast. Life is speeding by. It feels like time is my enemy these days.

Still, time is on my side when it comes to photography. The more time passes, the more I learn. Every day is a chance to master a new skill or try something new. When I first started taking pictures I felt so limited by my camera. I was afraid of it. I had no idea what all the bells and whistles were for.

Now, I feel much more confident. I see with the eyes of a photographer now. I imagine what I want the shot to look like and then try to achieve. I look for the light. I don't use the flash! I experiment with angles and composition.

So here's a little growth chart for my photography career. I got my Canon Rebel XTi for Christmas almost 2 years ago (gosh, I was still pregnant with Jaime). I had no idea how to use it. This is a shot I took outside using the Portrait mode on the camera. The flash popped up automatically.

Now I'd like to think my style has evolved. This was taken with my 50mm using only natural light and I also edited it a little in PS, sharpening her eyes and softening around the edges.

I don't know if you can tell on this website but the pictures are worlds apart as far as I'm concerned. Check out more great shots here.
